Moving Forward
Every time I think about the state of the Catholic Church and the victims and the families, I’m at a loss for words. It leaves me feeling heartbroken and disgusted at the home I’ve known and loved my entire life. How do I defend it? How do I reason with such a tradegy that has changed lives forever? How does one go back when the betrayal runs so deep…
I always come back to two truths. One truth being that Man will always fall. Man will always sin against those it loves the most and a priest is no different from you or I when it comes to sin. Does that excuse the sin that was committed? Absolutely not. Justice must prevail and consequences have to take place. The church is in dire need of a raw cleanse but even in doing so, the reality is our faith has never lied in Man. Which brings me to my second and most important truth.
Everything we need is in the Eucharist.
This is the heart and center of our Catholic faith. It has and will always be Jesus. An amazing priest I know once said, “When we meet Jesus in the Eucharist, we meet all of our needs and if we are open to it, Jesus will meet us there. When we are able to meet Jesus in the Eucharist, we become one with Him and become everything we want to be.”
WOAH.
I’ve never forgotten that. Everything I am and everything I will be lies in God the Father and that is all I need. That’s all we all need. If we can come back to this center every single day than we will never be without hope. He is the reason to stay. He is the reason to keep moving forward.
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. “ 1 Corinthians 15:58
